Vol. 243 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sludge Disposal.

25.

Mr. Burke

asked the Minister for Local Government if, having regard to the recent widespread apprehension regarding pollution of rivers, he will investigate the possibility of use of sewage sludge incineration apparatus recently developed by a firm (name supplied) which was recently demonstrated at the International Sewage Engineering Exhibition at Munich and which is now being installed in the city of Leeds.

Sludge incineration is a method of dealing with the sludge produced at sewage treatment works. The disposal of sludge does not constitute a significant problem at present and the method of sludge disposal adopted has no bearing on the pollution of rivers.
