Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

26.

andMrs. Burke asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding each group water scheme and regional extension in County Galway and County Roscommon.

I am arranging to have this information compiled and forwarded to the Deputies as soon as possible.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposed group water scheme for Kiltevna, Dunmore, County Galway.

Quality tests on the supply source for this scheme are being carried out by Galway County Council. In the meantime the promoter is mapping the locations of the houses to be served prior to the preparation of a design for the scheme.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each county council the percentage of households with piped water supply; and the average percentage for the State.

The information is not available in the detail requested. The latest information on the percentage of households with piped water supply is that contained in the census of population which was taken on the 9th April, 1961. At that time, about 57 per cent of all dwellings and 25 per cent of dwellings in rural areas had piped water supplies. Almost all of the 85,000 dwellings built since that date are fully serviced. In addition, grants have been paid for the installation of piped water in a further 41,000 dwellings.
