Vol. 243 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condition of County Cork Schools.

119.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that owing to overcrowding in Blarney primary schools, County Cork, some of the pupils are housed in a cold damp building where some of the windows are broken; and if he will take up the matter to ensure that immediate repairs are carried out to this building.

I am aware that the temporary accommodation which is being used for some of the pupils of Blarney National School, County Cork, is deficient, but I understand that the new secondary school for girls, at present under construction, will shortly be ready for occupation, and that suitable prefabricated classrooms, at present being used for the secondary school, will then be available to house some of the primary school children. At that stage, the temporary accommodation now in use in connection with the primary school will no longer be required.

In the meantime, I shall have investigations made as to the possibility of having conditions improved in the building now being temporarily used.
