Vol. 243 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Christmas Greeting Cards.

66.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the cost of officially provided Christmas greeting cards sent by him in 1968; if the postage was provided free by his Department and, if so, the cost; if he can give an estimate of cards on order for this year; and if the cards will be sent post free.

The issue of Christmas greeting cards in 1968 on behalf of my predecessor as Minister for Lands was arranged by Roinn na Gaeltachta, of which he was then also Minister.

The estimated cost of such cards for this year is £120. These cards will be issued in the official post.

Would the Minister not think it cheaper to give out Christmas trees instead of Christmas cards?

Very clever.

(Interruptions.)

It is a common experience for people in the west of Ireland to get a complaint from an applicant for the dole who has been granted the small sum of 1/- while we are told in Dáil Éireann today that cards are being bought for the sum of 3/- by our Ministers.
