Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - Dublin Building Land.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any of the building land purchased by Dublin Corporation or Dublin County Council has yet been made available to small builders; and, if so, the amounts and conditions under which it was so made available.

The most recent report submitted to me by Dublin Corporation on their special land acquisition programme shows that sites for a total of 134 houses had been made available for building operations by small builders at Finglas West, Lower Kimmage Road and Kilbarrack.

The corporation decided some time ago that, if sites are made available by them to small builders, the latter must agree to build a modest type house at an acceptable price, and accept corporation nominees, selected by them on the same basis as for their own purchase-type houses.

I understand also that further allocations of sites will be considered according as developed lands become available in Kilbarrack, Rathfarnham, Howth, and Tallaght.

In their purchase house/private sites programme Dublin Corporation have work in progress or ready to be started on the development of 1,672 sites, 1,707 are at planning stage and lands have been acquired for a further 4,000 sites.

No sites have been made available yet by Dublin County Council to small builders. Work is in progress on the development of 153 private sites, 182 are at tender stage and plans are being prepared by the council for a total of 820 private sites.
