Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Pier.

59.

asked the Minister for Finance the expenditure to date on the pier at Ballycotton, County Cork, under the following headings: (a) the erection of the plant and (b) the borings carried out for the extension of the pier.

The cost of the boring survey, including erection of plant, carried out for the Cork County Council in 1955 was £1,040 of which the State contributed half.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if it is the intention of the Government to extend the pier at Ballycotton?

In 1961 the Fisheries Branch, the Office of Public Works and the local authority had a meeting and it was decided that the county council would submit proposals with regard to this harbour to the Fisheries Branch. So far, no proposals have been received. The initiative rests with the county council. We have been awaiting proposals since 1961.
