Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Drainage Scheme.

58.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding a drainage scheme at Dunkellin, Loughrea, County Galway; and what are the prospects of work commencing in 1970.

The investigation of the Dunkellin scheme is proceeding but it is not possible to say at this stage when it is likely to reach the works stage; it will not be this year.

The Parliamentary Secretary says it has not yet reached the work stage. Could the Parliamentary Secretary tell us the exact position at the moment?

We expect to have the engineer's report in 1971 and an estimate of the cost. It will take another year after that before works could be considered.

Are we to take it then that probably by 1972 or 1973 work should be started on this scheme?

I would hope so, if it is possible to have an economic scheme.

It may not be possible to have an economic scheme?

That is always a possibility.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary tell me when a survey was first carried out on the Dunkellin river?

That is a separate question.

I have not got that information.
