Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ventilation of Caravans.

117.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of recent tragic accidents, he will make regulations to ensure that all caravans in use in Ireland are properly insulated and ventilated.

I have asked the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards to examine, as a matter of urgency, the question of preparing a standard specification for caravans and mobile homes with particular reference to insulation and ventilation. As an interim measure, the institute is bringing to the urgent attention of caravan manufacturers and domestic gas suppliers, the provisions of a code of practice in this connection which is in use elsewhere.

I appreciate the attitude the Minister has taken. It is very necessary. Would he also consider including in his reference small prefabricated buildings which could also be dangerous if not properly ventilated?

I shall look into that though I am not aware that the problem involved here has arisen in such cases. However, I shall look into that.

There is a possibility. That is all.
