Vol. 244 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade with South Africa.

118.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if a decision has been taken by the Government and Córas Tráchtála in relation to trading with South Africa; if a trade delegation from this country is about to visit South Africa; if so, the personnel of such delegation; and the reasons for such a trip.

As I indicated in reply to a previous question on the 23rd October, 1969 the United Nations Security Council has not decided on any economic sanctions against South Africa and the Government do not feel justified in interfering with the activities of Irish firms wishing to trade with South Africa.

There are no plans to send a trade delegation to South Africa.

Have the Government sent any trade delegations to independent African countries?

That is a different question.

Actually, they have.

Yes, I think the answer is yes, but I am speaking from recollection.
