Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - European Conference of Transport Ministers.

78.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether Ireland was represented at the European Conference of Transport Ministers at Paris on 16th December, 1969; and, if so, if he will give a report on the proceedings in so far as they relate to Ireland.

I was represented at the meeting in question by the secretary of my Department. The proceedings of the Council of Ministers were, as usual, held in private. The Ministers considered or adopted a number of reports prepared for them on such matters as general transport policy, cost analysis of railways, automatic coupling, urban transport, investments and traffic trends and economic research. The principal item of interest to this country was a proposal to establish a multilateral quota of vehicle licences for international road transport. No final decision was taken in this matter which will come before the Ministers again at their meeting in June next.
