Vol. 244 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Dental Service.

8.

asked the Minister for Health if he will consider the extension of dental care to all secondary school pupils; and define the difference between eligibility of those secondary school pupils who are attending a secondary top and an ordinary secondary school.

Until the present dental service for pupils of national schools has been brought to a satisfactory level, it will not be possible for health authorities to provide a dental service for pupils of secondary schools.

A secondary top is part of a national school and, therefore, children attending such a school are eligible for dental care under the present school dental service.

Surely the Minister will agree that there is a very unfair distinction between an ordinary secondary school and a secondary top as regards eligibility for free dental service?

The pupils in the secondary top in the national schools are eligible for dental care.
