Vol. 244 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

7.

asked the Minister for Health if he has studied the situation in relation to Ireland entering the Common Market or the EEC with particular regard to the inter-recognition of the medical and dental degrees which are conferred in Ireland.

My Department, with the co-operation of the Department of External Affairs, are in constant touch with developments in the health sector in the EEC. Draft directives concerning all professions in this sector, which include provisions relating to mutual recognition of qualifications, were passed by the Commission of the EEC to the Council between March and December, 1969. The drafts have been under examination in my Department and translations of the documents have been sent to the registration and teaching bodies and the professional organisations concerned. The Department will continue to keep these bodies and organisations informed of developments in this matter.
