Vol. 246 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ground Rents.

17.

asked the Minister for Justice if there are proposals to introduce amending legislation in connection with ground rents.

The Government have approved of my proposals for new landlord and tenant legislation. These proposals deal, inter alia, with the question of extending leasehold renewal rights, and the right to purchase the fee simple, to new classes of tenants. The proposals are based on the recommendations contained in the second report of the Landlord and Tenant Commission. The necessary Bill is now being drafted.

I am interested in the reply to the question and I was unable to hear the reply. In view of the seriousness of this matter and the effect it will have on so many people I would ask the Minister to repeat the reply.

I have answered it.

We did not hear it.

If Blueshirtism is rampant I cannot help it.

If the Minister wishes to repeat the reply he may do so.

In deference to the Ceann Comhairle and the House this was the reply:
