Vol. 246 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Supervision of Cork Suburb.

18.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that owing to the absence of a Garda patrol car in parts of the Gurranbraher area of Cork, there are many serious complaints of vandalism and rowdyism; and if he will take immediate steps to ensure that the area is fully supervised.

The commissioner informs me that the incidence of vandalism and rowdyism in Gurranbraher is neither better nor worse to any marked degree than in other similar areas. Serious acts of vandalism are not a problem there. In fact, only one serious case of vandalism has come to the notice of the Garda in recent weeks and proceedings are pending against the youths concerned.

In addition to the coverage given to the Gurranbraher area by the Garda patrol car in Cork City North, it is intended to allocate a motor cycle to Mallow Road Station in the near future to assist in policing the area.
