Vol. 246 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim Dispensary Doctor.

10.

asked the Minister for Health why a dispensary doctor in Dromahaire, County Leitrim, is serving as a temporary dispensary doctor instead of being appointed to a permanent position and being given encouragement to stay in the area.

No further appointment of a permanent dispensary doctor is to be made in Dromahaire dispensary district, County Leitrim. This is in accordance with the general policy in relation to further permanent appointments of dispensary doctors pending the introduction of the new general medical service with choice of doctor. A competition has been held by the Local Appointments Commission for a limited number of further permanent appointments but no posts have been included in the competition for districts where the interim temporary arrangements are long-standing and satisfactory.

Question No. 11 for written answer.
