Vol. 246 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Cement Silo.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a cement silo in the Cabra road area of Dublin is a health hazard due to the heavy pollution of the air in the vicinity of the silo; and what steps are open to him to secure its removal to a location where the pollution would not be injurious to health.

I am not aware that the cement silo in the Cabra Road area is the cause of heavy pollution of the air in the vicinity. I understand that the silo is designed and operations at the site are so arranged as to avoid any significant escape of dust.

Could the Minister say what are the air pollution levels for that particular area?

No. I have not got them.

Is the Minister's Department responsible for measuring air pollution in the city?

Yes, but we have no pollution measurement arrangements located in the Cabra area.

Does the Minister intend to place one there following the tabling of this question and in view of the fact that there are numerous complaints from people living in that area that the air is polluted?

I think the Deputy was informed already that we propose to introduce control of atmospheric pollution regulations in the very near future.
