Vol. 246 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Employment Schemes.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider making a special grant to local authorities to cover the work previously done by the special employment schemes.

I take it the Deputy is referring to the urban and rural employment schemes and not to the other schemes previously operated by the Special Employment Schemes Office. As regards the former, provision has not been made in my Department's Vote for 1970-71 to enable such grants to be made.

As regards the latter, the schemes have now been replaced by the Local Improvements Scheme in respect of which grants were allocated to local authorities on 30th April; these grants show a total increase of £31,000 over last year's allocation.
