Vol. 247 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deputations to Ministers.

2.

asked the Taoiseach whether there are any general rules prescribed by the Government in relation to the receiving by Ministers of deputations; and, if so, if he will detail them.

There are no rules of the kind mentioned by the Deputy.

Can the Taoiseach tell me had he any conversation with the Minister for Local Government who last week refused to meet the tenants' organisation and then changed his mind on Friday? Is the Taoiseach aware that the Minister had refused to meet them initially?

I have had a conversation with the Minister. I am aware that he has decided to meet the tenants' organisation.

Was this a firm conversation?

I had a conversation with him.

Is the Taoiseach aware that the Minister for Local Government has further refused to meet a deputation from taxi drivers here in the city? Is the Taoiseach aware of this?

No, he has not refused to meet a deputation of the taxi drivers. He was asked to receive the taxi drivers' association. He had not replied before somebody on their behalf said he had refused but, in the meantime, a committee has been set up representative of the Department of Local Government, of the Garda and of the local authority which is expected to report soon. It is the Minister's intention to await the receipt of that report, which will be available very shortly, before he meets the association.
