Vol. 247 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bennettschurch (Tipperary) National School.

19.

asked the Minister for Education whether, pending the erection of the new school at Newtown, Ballymacarbry, Clonmel, County Tipperary, he will arrange for the appointment of a second teacher at Bennettschurch national school; whether in view of the present lack of proper sanitary facilities at Bennettschurch school he will arrange for the provision of at least two toilets, one for boys and one for girls; and if, in view of the very serious concern of parents in the area in relation to the lack of a second teacher and the present condition of the school, he will have both matters dealt with urgently.

Under the rules for national schools an average enrolment of 36 pupils would be required in order to warrant the appointment of a second teacher in Bennettschurch national school. The average enrolment for the quarter ended 31st March, 1970, was only 27.8 units.

My Department is in communication with the Office of Public Works as to what works of a temporary nature might be carried out at this school pending the building of the new central school at Newtown.
