Vol. 248 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alcoholic Drink Sales.

24.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider raising the age limit for the sale of alcoholic drink from 18 years to 21 years of age.

Did the Minister consult with Alcoholics Anonymous, the Al-Anon or the Irish National Council on Alcoholism before he gave his learned answer.

I have not consulted with any of the groups mentioned by the Deputy.

Has the Minister consulted with anyone?

No, I have not.

Is this the Minister's opinion of one of the greatest problems we have in Ireland?

With due respect to the Deputy, the suggestion contained in his question is quite idiotic.

This shows the research that has been carried out by the Minister.

I have no idea who the Deputy thinks would be in a position to enforce any such legislation.
