Lastas Éireann Teo is a company incorporated in October, 1967, on the initiative of my Department to enable effect to be given to certain requirements of the customs convention on the international transport of goods by road under cover of TIR carnets (generally known as the TIR Convention) to which this country is a party.
The membership of Lastas Éireann Teo consists of a number of companies concerned with international transport by road and the company is wholly financed by them. The objects of the company are set out in its memorandum of association which can be inspected in the companies registration office.
The principal function of the company is to issue carnets which guarantee that the requirements of the TIR Convention will be observed by the holders in the event of irregularity. Lastas Éireann Teo undertakes liability up to a maximum of £10,000 for any one carnet.
