Vol. 248 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Frankfurt Tourism Workshop.

23.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what results, if any, have accrued from the recent tourism workshop at Frankfurt.

The two day workshop in Frankfurt which was organised by Bord Fáilte Éireann and held on 24th and 25th June, 1970 was part of the board's sales campaign for attracting more German visitors to Ireland in 1971. The workshop enabled Irish tourism representatives to meet and discuss business in relation to the 1971 season with German travel agents and carriers who have shown an interest in promoting Irish holidays. This was the first time that an Irish tourist workshop was held in Germany and its results can be finally assessed only when the volume of tourist traffic from Germany in 1971 is known.

I am informed by Bord Fáilte that Irish representatives who took part in the workshop were satisfied with the contacts made and the business achieved.

Have Bord Fáilte adequate funds to enable them to follow up on the contacts made at the tourism workshop last week with a proper advertising and publicity campaign?

Bord Fáilte are doing a good job in Germany.

Has the allocation for promotion in Germany been reduced by 45 per cent this year as compared with last year?

No. Perhaps the Deputy would put down a question?

Has the Minister any information for us as to how much money German tourists have spent in this country in the past few years?

Put down a question.

Do we have any German Tourists who pay their own way?

The Deputy's question is pertinent. If he puts down a question he will certainly have an answer to it.
