Vol. 248 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Commonages.

28.

asked the Minister for Lands (i) the total acreage of lowland commonage divided in County Galway over the past two years and (ii) the number of applications for such divisions now current and not yet dealt with.

In the two year period ending on 31st March, 1970, some 1,200 acres of commonage were divided in County Galway. Schemes for division of an additional 335 acres have been approved and it is hoped to carry out the work shortly. In two cases, aggregating 258 acres, inquiries on the ground are proceeding, with a view to the formulation of agreed proposals for division. A further five cases have been recorded for investigation in due course.

No applications for partition under section 24, Land Act, 1939, have been received in the past two years.

29.

asked the Minister for Lands the reason for the delay in dividing the commonage known as the O'Hara estate, Corbally, County Galway.

The Land Commission have for some time been endeavouring to secure the agreement of the parties concerned to a scheme for division of this commonage but these attempts have so far proved unsuccessful. Until such agreement is forthcoming, the formulation of proposals for a division cannot proceed.
