Vol. 248 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Electricity Supply.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when the ESB propose to extend electric current to the Toormore area, Castletownbere, County Cork.

I am informed by the ESB that Toormore is in the Board's Castletownbere rural area where work under the rural electrification planned post-development programme has been in progress for some time. The board hope to commence construction work in Toormore later this year or early next year. All unsupplied householders will be contacted in the meantime and quoted appropriate terms for supply.

Could the Minister be definite about this? The Toormore area, in common with other areas, was promised electricity last year and the previous year. The problem is that promises are not kept by the ESB, hence questions on this Order Paper. These promises create a false impression. Am I to assume that Toormore will be dealt with this year?

This is the first question on Toormore.

I know it is.

It will be done, as I have stated in the reply.

6.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when an electricity supply will be provided at Knocks national school, Clonakilty, County Cork.

I am informed by the ESB that supply will be extended to the school as soon as the manager has had the internal wiring carried out.
