Vol. 248 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly School.

36.

andMr. Connolly asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to the proposed provision of a new national school in Shinrone, County Offaly.

I would refer the Deputies to the reply which I gave on the 19th May last to a previous question regarding the proposed new school at Shinrone.

The investigation to which I referred in that reply has not yet been completed.

Would the Minister not agree that this matter has been dragging on for years? Is he aware that this school was built in 1887, that its condition is now an utter disgrace and that it is unhygienic? Is the Minister further aware that the manager collected the necessary money from the people of the area years ago but that the Department were not prepared to facilitate him at the time so that this considerable delay has ensued?

A decision will be reached on this matter as quickly as possible.

I will be satisfied if the Minister does that.
