Vol. 248 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - UCD Students.

39.

asked the Minister for Education how many students registered at UCD last autumn (October-November) in the following categories: (a) full time first arts, first commerce, first science and third arts general, and (b) evening first arts, first commerce and third arts general; how many students sat for the examinations in June, 1970, in each of the above subjects or subject groupings; and of those who sat for examinations, what percentage passed in each of the above groupings.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to give the information requested by the Deputy in the form of a tabular statement which will be circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Note:

The percentages are not in respect of the final examinations at the end of the 1969-70 session. Many who failed the summer examinations obtained exemptions in individual subjects and will complete the examination in September by passing the remaining subjects; a number of the others who have failed in all their subjects will resit the examinations in September and may be successful. Until the September examinations are completed, no final percentages are available.

The numbers who entered and sat do not completely correspond with the number who registered in October, 1969 as some students who failed in the 1968-69 session sat for the 1970 summer examination without having to register for the 1969-70 session.
