Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Milk Price.

65.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the average price paid per gallon for creamery milk in the months of April, May and June, 1970.

Comprehensive statistics in relation to creamery milk, including the prices paid by each creamery, are compiled at the end of the calendar year only and accordingly the information requested by the Deputy is not available for all creameries at this stage. Returns from a limited number of creameries indicate, however, that the average prices per gallon paid by those creameries in April and May, 1970, were 23.33d and 23.47d respectively. An average for June is not yet available. The prices quoted are calculated on the basis of the butter-fat, the skim being returned free to the suppliers, and do not include the 3d per gallon portion of the milk price allowance which is paid to the milk suppliers in the autumn.

Can the Minister indicate whether this is a lesser or a greater price than obtained for the same period last year?

I regret to inform the Deputy I have not got the figures extracted for the months of last year. The figures cover the entire year.
