Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

18.

andMr. G. Lynch asked the Minister for Social Welfare why persons, who have been in receipt of disability benefit and who on being declared fit for work are forced to claim unemployment benefit, are subjected to the three-day waiting period; and when this practice will be brought to an end.

I am not aware of any such practice. In accordance with section 15 of the Social Welfare Acts, 1952, a claimant to unemployment benefit for a period commencing within 13 weeks following the end of a period in respect of which he has been paid disability benefit is not required to serve the three days waiting period on his claim.
