Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Sheep Dipping Font.

39.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is prepared to sanction the provision of a sheep dipping font for the fair green of Oldcastle, County Meath.

The provision of public sheep dipping facilities in County Meath is the function of the county council.

My Department operates a scheme under which grants are made available to county councils towards the cost of provision of such facilities. No application has been received in the Department from Meath County Council for a grant under the scheme in respect of a dipping tank to be provided at Oldcastle. If and when it is it will be considered.

Do I understand from the Minister that no application has been made?

That is right.

I should like the Minister to note that application has been made though it may not have reached his Department yet. Strong representations were made to me by local residents that it would not be in the interests of health to impose this upon them.

If Meath County Council make an application under the scheme it will be considered.
