Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Housing.

54.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding proposals of Mayo County Council for the erection of ten dwellinghouses in Belmullet town.

I understand that sketch plans for a scheme of ten houses in Belmullet are being prepared by the county council and will be submitted to my Department shortly.

Mr. J. Lenehan

In view of the fact that these plans have been under examination for the past 20 years, can the Parliamentary Secretary take any action to ensure that this discredited council will take the necessary steps to have the houses provided in the near future? Can any pressure be put on them because we have failed?

The Department have been pressing Mayo County Council to take steps to alleviate the housing problem that exists there.
