Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clare Road Improvements.

67.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the urgently-needed road improvements at the junction of the Limerick, Shannon Airport and Ennis Roads, Shannon, County Clare, will be commenced.

Work on the improvements referred to cannot be commenced pending the determination of proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of the necessary land by the Clare County Council. The objections and the evidence given at a public local inquiry into the proposed compulsory acquisition are at present under consideration in my Department.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary endeavour to expedite the decision of his Department on this matter, not only in relation to the junction but, as I should have included in my question, the three-quarter mile stretch of local road towards Limerick? I would stress to the Parliamentary Secretary that this local road area is an absolute disgrace and it is particularly objectionable having regard to the proximity of Shannon Airport.

I would point out to the Parliamentary Secretary that the fact that the rest of the road is good makes it all the more hazardous because people do not expect to meet this bad stretch of road.

I will pass on the request to the Minister.
