Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Houses.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government when, approximately, work will commence on the building of 34 houses for Killarney Urban District Council at Ardshanavooley, Killarney, in respect of which his Department sanctioned the raising of the loan for the purchase of the land and for the building of the houses.

I do not know when work is likely to be started on these houses. The date of commencement is a matter between the housing authority and the contractor.

69.

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals the National Building Agency has for the erection of houses in Kenmare, County Kerry, for industrial workers.

The National Building Agency Limited has been approached by Kerry County Council and the Industrial Development Authority to provide houses in Kenmare for industrial workers. Correspondence between these bodies and my Department is proceeding. No decisions have been taken as yet regarding the scope of the scheme.

70.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed 24 house scheme to be built in Kenmare by Kerry County Council; and if he will confirm that it will not be necessary for Kerry County Council to raise a loan specifically for this purpose.

I approved Kerry County Council's proposal to accept a tender for this scheme on the 14th of this month.

It is normal practice to raise a separate loan for each housing scheme. No formal proposal for the financing of the Kenmare scheme has been submitted as yet to my Department.
