Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Housing Schemes.

71.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in respect of the following housing schemes which have been proposed by Tipperary South Riding County Council—Cappawhite, Cahir, Two-Mile-Bridge (Jocker), Clonmel, Mullinahone, Rosegreen, Marlfield, Bansha, Ballyclerihan, The Commons, Thurles, Fethard (Newport), Two-Mile-Bridge (O'Connell), Ardfinnan, Burncourt, Newcastle and New Inn.

The housing authority have a sixteen house scheme in progress in Cahir and I have approved their tender and loan proposals for schemes at Fethard, Ardfinnan and Newcastle, and plans for schemes at Cappawhite and Two-Mile-Bridge. This latter scheme has been redesigned to accommodate the dwellings originally intended to be provided on another site at Two-Mile-Bridge. I have not received any proposals for the remaining schemes.

72.

asked the Minister for Local Government when tenders for sanction were submitted to him, and when such sanction is likely to be given, in respect of 16 houses at Golden and four houses at Grangemockler, County Tipperary.

The housing authority's proposal to accept a tender for four houses at Grangemockler was received in my Department last week.

With regard to Golden, I have not yet received a proposal to accept a tender for the proposed scheme of 16 houses but I have received last week a revised proposal for the acceptance of a tender for the scheme of six houses. Both this proposal and the one for Grangemockler are under examination and my decisions on them will be given as soon as possible.

73.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the plans for six houses at Bawnmore, Cashel, County Tipperary, were submitted to him; and when approval may be expected.

These plans were submitted to my Department on the 5th May, 1970. I was advised that the proposed site was unsuitable for a housing scheme and the housing authority were so informed on the 16th June last.

74.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the plans for a group of houses at Dundrum, County Tipperary, were first submitted to him; the number of houses involved; and if he will make a statement on the reason for delay in getting past the planning stage in this area.

No plans have been submitted to me for a scheme of houses in Dundrum.

75.

asked the Minister for Local Government when applications for approval of loans were made to him and when such approval is likely to be given in respect of (a) the sanctioned tender for 16 houses at Fethard, (b) the sanctioned tender for eight houses at Kilsheelan, Clonmel, and (c) the sanctioned tender for four houses at Nodstown, Cashel.

The housing authority's proposals for the financing of these schemes were included in their application for a composite loan of £125,000 which was submitted originally on the 18th July, 1969. In accordance with normal practice sanction to the loan proposals for these schemes, which was issued on 17th instant, was deferred until the acceptance of tenders for the schemes had been approved by me.

76.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many of the 80 dwellings estimated by the Cashel housing authority in March, 1968, as being necessary to the period ending 31st March, 1971, have, in fact, so far been provided; and if he will make a statement on the present position.

The assessment made by Cashel Urban District Council in March, 1968, was an estimate of the number of private and local authority houses that might fall to be required to meet accumulated and prospective needs in the period ending 31st March, 1971. I am not in a position to say how many private houses have so far been provided in the urban administrative area as statistics of private housing completions are not compiled in a form which would enable me to give this information. With regard to the provision of local authority houses, the formulation of scheme proposals to meet needs is a matter for the local housing authority. Their latest progress report indicates that they have plans for a scheme of 15 houses in hands and their proposals for the provision of 27 developed building sites for private houses were approved on the 20th February last.
