Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speed Limit Signs.

100.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate a reduction of speed or entry to a village or town by a series of speedlimit signs of a graduated nature, for example a 60, 50, 40 and then 30 mph sign.

I am not satisfied as to the need for the adoption of the Deputy's suggestion as a general practice. Where the interests of safety require, a special speed limit of 40 mph and in some cases a special limit of 50 mph is imposed on the approach to built-up areas where the limit of 30 mph applies.

101.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will increase in size the repeater speed limit sign to at least 12 inches in diameter.

The Road Traffic (Signs) Regulations, 1962 specify that the diameter of the repeater speed limit sign shall be 12 inches and this is the dimension of the sign in use.
