Vol. 249 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School of Retail Distribution.

29.

Dr. FitzGerald

andMr. R. Burke asked the Minister for Education whether he has received proposals for the re-location of the school of retail distribution at present in Parnell Square, Dublin; if so, what is the nature of these proposals; and when he hopes to approve them.

I understand that the Dublin City Vocational Education Committee has arrangements in train to transfer the school of retail distribution to suitable premises in another location as soon as necessary work of re-decoration has been completed in those premises. It is expected that the transfer will take place immediately after the Christmas holidays.

May I ask the Minister where these premises are situated?

In Marlborough Street.

Will they be suitable to house all the pupils?

I am informed that the VEC are satisfied. Of course, they are temporary premises in the sense that the VEC hope in the long term to erect a new school. However, I am informed by the VEC that the premises are suitable.

Can the Minister state whether the premises are rented?

The premises in Marlborough Street are the property of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee.
