Vol. 250 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Money Brokers.

34.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that the best interests of the country are served by the establishment of two money brokers in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Money brokers do not deal in money on their own account but act as intermediaries between financial institutions wishing to place and receive short-term funds. They are, of course, free to set up in business in this country as are firms generally. The Central Bank is, however, arranging to get statistical information on the extent and scope of transactions arranged by these brokers so that the matter may be kept under review.
