Vol. 250 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pay.

93.

asked the Minister for Defence the most recent date on which pay and allowances to (a) Army reservists and (b) members of the FCA were adjusted; if it is the intention of the Department to increase them in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

During full-time service, annual training, et cetera, members of the Reserve Defence Force receive the same rates of pay and allowances as members of the Permanent Defence Force. The most recent increase applicable is the 12th round adjustment, the first phase of which bad effect from 1st April, 1970.

The Minister will appreciate that the question I asked of him was the most recent date on which pay and/or allowances to Army reservists and members of the FCA were adjusted and if it is the intention of the Department to increase them in the near future. I mean by "Army reservists" those who are on reserve, not those who are actually in training. The Minister has given me the information about those who were called up to go into training. What about those who are on reserve and who receive a yearly payment? Would the Minister have any information about that?

The Deputy did not indicate that in his question.

I asked about Army reservists.

I have given the information regarding those called up on active service. I will look into the other matter.

I am sorry if I did not make the question clear. Perhaps the Minister will let me have the information with regard to those on reserve.

I assume the Deputy is looking for the reserve grant as it is called.

The grant has not been revised for years.

The Minister knows it has not been revised and that is why he has not given the information I sought. Will I have to put down a question next week or will the Minister add that in the Official Report?

Put down a question next week.
