Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Fisheries Policy.

148.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what plans the Irish Government have for a fish producers' group to undertake the market intervention role prescribed for such bodies in the EEC fisheries policy.

The basic regulations of the common fisheries policy, including the provisions for market intervention by producers' organisations, adopted by the Community on 20th October last are being carefully studied but, as the Deputies are no doubt aware, many detailed implementing regulations, including the methods for applying the market intervention provisions in the present member states, have still to be finalised by the Community. Precise plans for applying the Community's market intervention system here have therefore not yet been formulated.
