Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Amenities.

208.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are plans for development of community centres by the local authority in the Tallaght area, Dublin; and when work is likely to commence.

209.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is the intention of Dublin County Council and Dublin Corporation to provide open space for recreational purposes in Tallaght; and if it is the intention of each separate local authority to develop there; and when work will commence.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 208 and 209 together.

There are no details in my Department of plans by Dublin County Council or Dublin Corporation to provide community centres or recreational open spaces at Tallaght.

I understand that the council's policies for the development of Tallaght, including the provision of community facilities, will be set out in some detail in the revised draft development plan for the area which the council are considering and which should be going on public display early in 1971.

I am aware that Dublin Corporation have acquired substantial areas of land at Tallaght for housing and other development and it follows that they will be closely concerned with the planning and development of the area in order to accommodate the large population that will eventually be living there.

It will be the responsibility of the county council, as planning authority, to determine land-use policies for the area and to reserve whatever land is needed for the provision of community facilities, including open spaces for recreational and amenity purposes; but in view of the direct involvement of Dublin Corporation in the development of the area it seems likely that the corporation will also be involved in the question of facilities.
