Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Postal Services.

245.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why the postal services are so unsatisfactory in the Perrystown and Manor Estate areas of County Dublin.

I am not aware that the postal service in the places mentioned is unsatisfactory. If the Deputy will let me have particulars of complaints I will have them investigated.

246.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why there is such a poor telephone service to Balbriggan. County Dublin; and what plans he has for the improvement of the service.

The telephone service at Balbriggan has been interrupted on a number of occasions in recent months by damage to underground cables caused by road works and by faults in the exchange equipment. Owing to rapid growth in call traffic the switching equipment which serves Balbriggan exchange is inadequate during busy periods for the volume of traffic arising. I regret the inconvenience caused to subscribers. It is expected that a major extension to the exchange equipment which was ordered early last year will be brought into service in about six months' time. In the meantime everything possible will be done to ensure a satisfactory service.
