Vol. 251 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Purchase Deposits.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the difficulty being experienced by young couples particularly in Dublin in raising deposits to purchase new houses, he will in conjunction with local authorities and other financial agencies formulate a scheme of scaled loans in accordance with income for traditionally built houses and sound pre-fabricated homes.

I am at all times sympathetic to the principle of helping people to provide their own houses but it will be appreciated that I must have regard to the demands which unlimited loans would make on our limited capital resources. I would, however, like to stress that the number of new houses now being built for purchase with the aid of loans is greater than ever before.
