Vol. 251 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Swimming Pool.

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on the further development of the Ferrybank resort development scheme and, in particular, on proposals with regard to the provision of a swimming pool.

Further stages submitted to my Department by Wexford Corporation for the Ferrybank resort development scheme provide for a protective wall on the seaward side of the scheme and a swimming pool. The question of making a grant towards the cost of the wall is under consideration. I understand that Bord Fáilte is prepared to make a grant of £20,000 in respect of the proposed swimming pool. With regard to the balance of the cost, I have informed Wexford Corporation that when the technical aspects of the project have been finalised and the normal local voluntary contribution of 20 per cent of this balance is available, I will be prepared to consider, in the light of the capital then available to me, the raising by them from a source other than the Local Loans Fund of a loan not exceeding £50,000 or 80 per cent of the balance—whichever is the lesser— excluding certain features such as restaurant, spectator accommodation and sun bathing area. This is in accordance with my stated policy on swimming pools. Fifty per cent of the charges on the loan will be recouped by my Department.
