Vol. 251 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position of Ballintarmon, Annascaul group water scheme, County Kerry.

As it appears that the cost of this scheme to the participants would be exceptionally high, my Department took up with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries the possibility of that Department making a special contribution towards the cost of headworks and distribution mains. Officials of that Department have carried out an investigation of the area, but, because of the lack of plans and other detailed information, were unable to determine what contributions, if any, might be forthcoming from their Department towards the scheme. Arrangements have now been made for a joint inspection of the area by inspectors from my Department and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries so that the financial implication of the project can be fully assessed. A proposition will then be put before the group members.

Will the Minister say how soon the investigation will take place?

Fairly soon.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position of Lougher group water scheme, Annascaul, County Kerry.

The design for this scheme was received in my Department in December last. It has been examined and found in order and has now been forwarded to the Kerry County Council for formal approval.

61.

andMr. Cowan asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction Daingean, County Offaly water improvements scheme.

The preliminary report for this scheme which was recently received in my Department is under examination and a decision on it will be issued shortly.

62.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the proposal for a group water scheme at Gurteen, Dunmore, County Galway.

The results of quantity and quality tests on the proposed source are awaited in my Department. When it has been established that this source is satisfactory, the group will be advised as to the next steps to be taken.

63.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the fact that Roscommon has the lowest number of group water schemes (details supplied), he will consider giving priority in the matter of the clearance of all outstanding applications.

While there was relatively little interest until recently in group water supply schemes in County Roscommon, proposals from that area received no less attention from my Department than similar proposals from other areas. There is no large volume of outstanding cases on hands which would call for special measures by my Department.

64.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will specify the counties in which regional water schemes have been completed; and the approximate date of the completion of the first scheme in each county.

Information which has been obtained from the county councils indicates that the particulars requested by the Deputy are as set out in the tabular statement which, with the permission of the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:
