Vol. 251 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilcock-Dublin Road Improvement.

66.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department have received any proposals from Kildare and/or Dublin County Councils for the improvement of the main road from Kilcock to Dublin; and, if not, if he will request such proposals from the councils concerned.

The proposal of Kildare County Council to improve this road in the vicinity of Maynooth College has been approved and Dublin County Council, in consultation with officers of my Department, are preparing proposals for improving a section between Palmerstown and Ballydowd.

I am aware also that the two councils are engaged in surveys and examinations for further major improvements and realignment of this route but no detailed proposals have yet been submitted to my Department.

I am sure the Minister is aware of the frustrations and dangers of this road from Kilcock to Dublin. Will the Minister put pressure on these councils to expedite the surveys in order that a plan can be prepared?

I have a special interest in seeing that this road is improved.
