Vol. 251 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation District Office.

75.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether arrangements have as yet been completed for the opening of a corporation district office at Ballymun, Dublin; and whether he will recommend the opening of similar offices at Finglas and Cabra.

In response to a recommendation which I recently made to him, the Dublin city and county manager has agreed in principle to set up in Ballymun a local branch of the corporation's housing department which will provide a full range of housing advisory services. Completion of the necessary arrangements involving, as they do, the location and fitting out of a suitable and convenient office, selection of personnel and so on must take a little time but this will be kept as short as possible. The Ballymun experiment will be in the nature of a pilot project and the question of making similar arrangements in other areas where the corporation have major housing estates will be considered in the light of experience there.

The extension of the arrangements will also fall for consideration in the general context of the suggestions in the White Paper on Local Government reorganisation about the establishment of advisory area committees and local community councils.
