Vol. 251 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Officers.

17.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will ensure that in future no social welfare officer will be permitted to operate in a district for a period exceeding three years.

It has been the normal practice to allow a social welfare officer to remain in his station so long as he continues to give satisfactory service. This is a long standing arrangement which has worked satisfactorily from the point of view of the public, the Department and the officers themselves. I see no reason to change it.
