Vol. 251 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Agencies.

18.

asked the Minister for Labour what the position of private enterprise agencies will be under the Employment Agency Bill, 1971; if he is aware that many of them may be forced out of business; if his Department desires to have a monopoly over placement services in this country; if so, what provision will be made for existing agencies who are doing excellent work in this field; if compensation will be paid in the case of private enterprises which suffer loss or are put out of business; if he has discussed this matter with the interests involved; if so, what the outcome of such discussions has been; if he will bear in mind the importance and the necessity for maintaining private enterprise at a high standard of efficiency; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is in touch with the Federation of Employment Agencies and an offer of discussion has already been made to that organisation. As regards the other parts of the question, I would ask the Deputy to await my statement when moving the motion for a Second Reading of the Bill.
