asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will arrange to have a cost benefit study done on the ESB coal-burning generating station at Arigna, County Leitrim, in order to assess the effectiveness of the financial investment in it; and if he will have such a study used as a basis for a further cost benefit study on the proposal to have that generating station extended.

A full investigation into the technical and economic problems of extending the Arigna station was carried out some years ago by expert consultants which indicated that, while the project was technically feasible, it would be wholly uneconomic. However, I am considering the feasibility of having a cost benefit study made on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
