Vol. 253 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Schools.

66.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of primary schools for the years 1965 and 1970, the number employing three teachers and the number of such schools which he expects to exist in 1975; and if he will make a statement about the long-term future of the three-teacher school.

In 1965 there were 859 three-teacher schools in existence. The corresponding figure for 1970 was 769. It is not possible to forecast the number of such schools which may be in operation in 1975.

In relation to the future of three-teacher schools I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question on this subject on 30th March, 1971.
