Vol. 253 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Museum.

67.

asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the statement made by the President of the Friends of the National Collection regarding the condition of the National Museum; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen the statement referred to by the Deputy and would direct his attention to a reply which I gave in this House on 9th April, 1970 to a question regarding the future reorganisation and development of the National Museum. It is hoped to have the development programme at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, carried out over a short period of years. Negotiations are in progress, also, for the acquisition of additional accommodation in the vicinity of the existing museum buildings.

Proposals for the provision of additional staff for the institute are at an advanced stage.
